CHAVELA is a documentary telling the story of legendary Ranchera singer and cultural pioneer,
Chavela Vargas. Chavela’s life spanned the cabarets of Alcapulco in the 1950’s to a relationship with Frida
Kahlo and finally a late career return to the stages of Carnegie Hall and the Latin Grammys. This 90 minute
film will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles at the Pico Union Project, 1153 Valencia St on August
